Several years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor with an unclear prognosis. In a follow-up scan, I learned that the tumor was in fact benign and I would not require treatment. While I felt incredibly fortunate, I also recognized that many others would not receive such good news. Their futures would be tied to available treatments and a search for a cure.
Shortly after my diagnosis I began working at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Despite the critical role clinical trials play in bringing therapies and cures to patients, 85% of trials are delayed or cancelled due to lack of participation. To improve these statistics for Parkinson’s trials, the foundation developed Fox Trial Finder, a clinical trial matching platform that educates patients on trials and helps them locate trials best suited to their needs.
Raising awareness on available clinical trials is not specific to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Many disease foundations and patient advocacy groups are mobilizing their communities to participate in research. We created Clinical Trial Connect to aid organizations in achieving this goal through technology that improves the patient experience.
As our community of partners grows and more organizations join our platform, we are fostering collaboration and information sharing throughout the community. Our ultimate goal is to provide easier access to clinical trials, allowing more patients to find the answers and cures they are searching for.
